William Shakespeare (26 April 1564 - 23 April 1616) is widely regarded as the greatest English writer and the world's greatest dramatist. 39 plays, 154 sonnets, and numerous poems made the man into a cultural icon that rivals even the current "rockstars" of our own age. Among his many plays include Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear, and the most infamous Romeo and Juliet (the non-Leonardo DiCaprio version). While much speculation surrounds the man himself (including the Oxfordian Theory of Shakespeare Authorship...aka, Shakespeare didn't write his own works), one must imagine how much of the Western world and its literature is directly or indirectly tied to his influence.
