Aidan of Lindisfarne was an Irish monk in the seventh century who is regularly recognized as restoring Christianity to Northumbria. He traveled continuously throughout the countryside and spread the message of redemption to men at all classes and social positions, including slaves and children. He serves as a quintessential example of cultural evangelism and social engagement as he took a personal interest in every community he came into contact with and advocated for social and spiritual equality between the upper and lower classes.
He is recognized as a saint by the Eastern Orthodox, Anglican Communion, and Roman Catholic Church.
Feast Day: August 31st.
We thought about just putting the first stanza of this prayer on the mug but realized that each part is as equally important as the other. One is made to be an island only to travel the tides to the remaining world and back again into the presence of God.
Leave me alone with God as much as may be. As the tide draws the waters close in upon the shore, Make me an island, set apart, alone with you, God, holy to you.
Then with the turning of the tide prepare me to carry your presence to the busy world beyond, the world that rushes in on me till the waters come again and fold me back to you.
This mug is made on a 15 oz, high quality ceramic mug and is both dishwasher and microwavable!
