Dorothy L. Sayers was an iconic literary figure who is considered one of the foremost contributors to the Golden Age of Detective Fiction. Amongst her best known works are The Nine Tailors, The Man Born to Be King, and Whose Body but Mrs. Sayers always considered her strongest literary work to be her translation of Dante's Divine Comedy.
Sayers was known for her cleverness, her whit, and her wisdom. She was a friend of C.S. Lewis and many others in the Inklings society and on several occasions attended meetings, although she was never officially a member. Still, she embodies in her writings many of the same mid-20th century values those like Williams, Tolkien, Lewis, L'Engle (who was a bit later), and Barfield employed in their works.
