The Jürgen Moltmann Mug
The Jürgen Moltmann Mug
God weeps with us so that we may one day laugh with him.
One of the foremost German theologians of the 20th century, Jürgen Moltmann is known for his The Crucified God and Theology of Hope amongst many others. A post-Barthian, Moltmann is famous for a theology that speaks of God suffering with humanity and his emphasis on the eschatological resurrection. As a former German soldier in WW2, Moltmann became a Christian as a prisoner of war. His time in war, his exposure to Auschwitz in the aftermath of the war, and his experiences at the hands of the Scottish Christians in Kilmarnock, Scotland had a significant influence on his life and his theology. Moltmann stands alongside many others in the Drinklings line (like C.S. Lewis, Karl Barth, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and N.T. Wright) as emerging from the 20th century of modern technological development and asking critical questions about what faith means and looks like for the thoroughgoing world of the 21st century.
